Suspension and Chassis / How strong is a gussetted factory frame?
« on: January 16, 2015, 11:21:04 AM »
Thanks for all the info.  I've had banshees and a couple 450rs but I'm looking to get a nice 250r this year and I'd like to do as much reading as possible before I make my selection.  Thanks.

Suspension and Chassis / How strong is a gussetted factory frame?

I just trail ride and hammer whoops.  Is a factory Honda trx250r frame plenty strong for this?
I hear many stories of frames cracking.  Would a gusset kit eliminate this entirely? I don't hit big jumps at all.
Are the 88-89 frames stronger than the 86-87 or vise versa?

Suspension and Chassis / 86,87,88,89 Frame and suspension differences?

So I can get an 86 engine and swap the crank out for a long rod? Are the cases the same? Or is it just a rear mount bracket that is different?

I'm looking to buy a 250r and I'd like to know if there are any differences in the 86,87,88,89 frames. Is everything interchangeable? (Arms, swingarm, plastics)
are the engine mounts the same? I know the rod size is different in the engine.  Are the trannies and clutch the same?

Questions-
is it bolt on?

what shock should be used? A dirt bike shock or an aftermarket atv rr shock?

can it be done to a 450r frame?

Is is the travel increased?
Many thanks for any help.

I'm new to the 250r scene.  I'm a banshee guy looking to explore Honda a little more.  I own a 450er now and love the suspension.   I had no idea Walsh was here in Florida.  Sweet.  Thx for the info!

I had no idea you were in Canada. The shipping would be outrageous.  I was really interested in you modifying a frame for me.  I'm in Tampa florida.

The brackets you are referring to are for the plastic fins in front of the radiator that direct air into the radiator. The small brackets on the plastic or what the fins sit in.

How much time do you have in the project? Would you ever sell that chassis w radiator? Or make another if I sent you a chassis?
