converting 2wheels and 4 wheels to 3

ok I am far enough on this project to post up a little more information.. unfortunately its not a quad or a Honda,, but its my latest trike project,, I started out with a frame and a motor from an 03 yz450 Yamaha ,, had this idea in my head for a long time,, so its time to put the wheels in motion, here is what I started with... ,

and with a little work,, and a lot of figuring I finally got my swingarn length worked out. so off to the swinger jig I go...

the front end was a real simple switch. I have a set of triple clamps that are off a big Honda street bike, so no need to have them custom made,, even the stem pressed right in from the yz triple clamps ,, and to my amazement,, the lower clamp only had to be bored 1mm and the top fit perfectly....

since I got this as a basket I knew I was going to have to open up the motor too,,, WOW I figured it out right, junk!!! so here is where the $$$$$ comes in, new crank, piston and cylinder, waterpump rebuild, new oil pump, gasket set, clutch basket and plates,, I sent the head out to have it inspected and rebuilt,, that was the good news,, all done recently and no need for anything but new seals because they were already in there,  so on to the rear suspension. it all is from the yfz quad and bolted right to the yz frame,, PERFECT  no figuring it has all been done by Yamaha,,,,  so now that its all bolted together I added gussets to the swinger,

this makes it a roller,, so I can see ride height and fork angle,,

so  on to the rest,,, next was subframe,, it is right off the yfz quad  added brackets at tha proper angle to make the seat layout on the tank perfect,, I waited till I had the seat fenders and tank to finalize this step,, fitment was very important,  I cut the old pegs onff and welded the stock yfz pegs on no need for them to pivot either.. and on to paint and start bolting on the goodies,

now we can jump past all the boring fitting of parts to the almost finished project!!

I am almost done ,,, ALMOST,, I did ride it for a little break in time ,,, dune trip coming soon to see how it feels with dune clothes!!!!

Very nice,I like how you used the yfz450 rear shock/linkage setup. I still dont know why more people arent using it,its about the closest to a cr500 you will get,and at half the cost. Very cool!

Very nice!  What is the story on the forks?  Are they off the 03 YZ450R as well?  Did you have to modify their length? I would think they would be too long without cutting them down.

the forks are right off the bike,, 03 yz 450, uncut  ,,,,you have to remember the triple clamp height is 3 inches higher than a stock 250r 3 wheeler,,  so the longer forks are necessary to get proper ride height,,
