Temporary Pipe Swap?
« on: October 03, 2013, 08:47:34 AM »
Would anybody be interesting in doing a temporary pipe and silencer swap with me? It is so difficult to try different pipes with buying them, which is very expensive. I would really like to try an ESR TRX5 standard mount pipe on my race quad to see if I like it more than mine. I currently have a Sparks MX pipe and silencer. We would both pay shipping both ways and would try out the other pipe for a set amount of time. Again, this is a temporary swap, NOT A TRADE. I just want to be clear. I would be very careful and respectful not to dent or abuse in any way the other person's pipe and silencer. I just want to try out this pipe and see if it is better than what I have. Plus, I know that there are some out there that have always wanted to try the Sparks MX pipe. If everything can be worked out in a civilized and respectful manner, then I am game. So is anybody interested in doing this?

You have a good idea. I wish there was a better way to try a pipe, before buying. Good luck!

Its a great idea.  If you were local, I wouldn't have any problem swapping pipes for a day.  But shipping cost and the hassle of shipping ruins it for me.  Maybe someone there local that you could swap with.

That is one of those things, where who ever ported your cylinder should know which pipe the engine would need, but in a case where if a quad was bought & you dont know the specs of the engine, so you dont know which pipe would be best, then the cylinder port work needs to be degreed in to see which aftermarket pipe would match up with the porting or if one need to be custom built for it.

When I'm questioned about porting, I find out what the riders skill level is & the type of racing they intend to do & then what performance parts, pipe or pipes they have to the engine, because I do a lot of porting to match up with the pipe or pipes the riders have to save them a dollar or two.

Thank you for the offer Bigred, but I am really wanting to try the TRX5 being that alot of racers seem to swear by it, but few have tried it against the spark mx.

What is the difference between the TRX5 and the TRX9 pipes?  I thought they were both labeled as a mid- best all around pipe.

everyone who has the 5 loves it, so I say just buy a 5, they're only 280

Yes, they definitely come well recommended. But I don't want to pay for another pipe if I already have the best pipe I can get for my setup. The problem is, it's really difficult to tell what pipe is best for your setup unless you have tried several. Back when 250rs were still being raced wide spread, the sparks mx pipe was the hot ticket, but pipes have also continued to evolve some and there might be better options out there. I would like to find out without having to drop a load of money.

As far as my setup: I have an ESR 310 power valve with TRX 9 porting. I like my sparks pipe on it, but I would like something to compare it against. Everything out there is the best, until it is compared to something else. Then the truth comes out.

I honestly think you should just buy one you cant go wrong.  Is the sparks pipe you have  a mx or the tt pipe sparks.  If you got the high rpm pipe might not see that much diference if you have the sparks mx  You Will Love The 5pipe..    Its (powerful) you can feel and hear..   On scale of 1-10 rating id give it a 10 from all the pipes ive tried if you an experienced rider the bottom end people say it lacks wont be noticable

I used to have PT high rev's on all my motors. Got tired of short shifting all the time so I started trying the type 6. Great low end on small motors but the high end just did not ever come around. I like the trx5 for all around power. But I have grown to like my trx9r here in the last year on the 412. The trx9r is comparable to the high rev but the short shifting is not as short. The pipe is twice the size diameter wise and has crazy power on the big motors. All my pipes have been converted to BB. I would suggest buying a 5 or 9 to try as they are easy to resell.
