considering going with the msd ignition and coil setup on my saber. what are the pros and cons of it? also are the benifits worth the upgrade and how much trouble are they to setup?

I know nothing about them but I was talking to my friend Chad who owns Victory Motorsports about a Pilot setup. He said his MSD misfired and it blew his Pilot cylinder off the bottom end. Said he's never use them again

Sounds like he didn't have the pickup/timing set correctly. It can be tricky on this setup. Sean just finished getting his together on the puma, he can elaborate.

I'd like to know also. Talked to matt shearer about my saber and he said its ideal to get one over the cr ignition

If you want to get to most out of your motor for drag racing msd is the way to go. I took my cr ignition off didn't change anything on the setup put the msd on on gained 500 rpm of over rev.

a programmable unit should be alot better than a fixed ign for obvious reasons. i dont know anything specific about the msd but theres several different brands that can fit up to the honda. i think a programable will be one of my next investments pretty soon

The msd I run is a 4217 msd fully programmable single cylinder ignition. The down side is you have to spend time and money to make the setup work. You need a lab top so you can put different timing curves or adjust the two timing curves you can have in the cdi. I make adjustments at the track if needed. A two stroke timing light is also something you might want.

I talked to shearer a while back, he recommended the msd for the saber. said for drag racing the msd is the only way to go.So future plans call for sending my bike to Ryan Hormell at Hormells Extreme Atv in Lafayette. Ill let him order the programmable msd, install it, then dyno tune it to get the max hp and best timing curve out of it..he said its a little trickey to set up initially but once its setup its good to go... guess time will tell..
