I have my R torn apart right now and just ordered my gusset kit from tony. Im conflicted on which red i should choose so i want opinions. Also, how much powder should i buy to give my powder coater to do my frame and hubs? My stem is already red but im not gonna base my frame off that color as i think im gonna buy or trade to a extended one and those shock covers are coming off.

If your taking it to a coater to have done let them supply the powder -- If taking your own powder you most likely wont get a guarantee on how well the finish comes out as the coater dont know how it was stored etc -- as for what red to go with thats 100% a matter of choice depending on shade and gloss level- you will be cheaper off finding a single coat color- if you find a color you like call the company and have them send you a sample panel or a couple different panels --

I have a guy who does street bike rims for a local shop i was put on to. This guy does it on the side and is decent as ive done parts with him already but he doesnt have a bright red like i want. I honestly havent looked in to reds yet but was hoping to get a good recomendation(s) before to narrow it down seeing as lots of members have made choices on nice R reds before

Mine is lollipop red over alien silver. If I had to do it again I think I would do lollipop red over cosmic blue. It's a sweet color...

This makes me want to strip it down and do it in this coat....

That last pic is black frost and lollipop red.

But like powder said, it's up to you. I took mine in for professional work since I haven't perfected dual coats yet and I have to say that there are tons of options. You will pay more if it's a dual coat or more. You'll pay more if he has to order but not much more.

I felt like I overpaid some but he blasted and powdered the swing arm, frame, motor mounts, all hubs and rear rotor hub for $330. This was blasting and two coats. There's more time into things that take a lot of masking but overall I'm glad I powdered and didn't paint. It isn't prone to scraped and dings. I've got them in my frame now but it holds up well.

Another thing is make sure you have all welding done. Gusseting, fixed areas, etc. Hell, if you're like me, I'd suggest removing all of the unwanted mount tabs and stuff. It gives it a nice look and removes all of that extra crap. It's not much but it's nice to clean up the farm as much as possible. This is what I'm doing with my hybrid!

The color there is the lollipop and cosmic blue.

You can do flake, vein, textured, glow in the dark and other creative works. The metallic look all depends on the powder. More of a sparkle is in the starlight powders (don't quote me on that) I believe. Not my cup of tea. Powderillusions could probably answer better.

Edit: There are metallics. The bottle and fender are the same color. Just different lighting.

What I do is just copy it to the desktop and then upload. Try prismatic powders site. Usually when you choose a color they'll have plenty of pics with different mixes. Gives you tons of fine tuned options. Kinda like a carb and needle adjustments. The colors are just the jets. The needle adjustments are all of the combinations. Then you have all of the additives and looks. That's your fuel type and mix.

you can get all kinds of frisky with powders--prismatic seems to really like multi-coat powders so you have to make sure what your getting and there is a ton you can do with them but every coat adds thickness cost and sometimes headaches --

here is lollipop red over a silver vein I did on a bike frame

same lollipop red over a heavy silver base (its very close to the frame red yamaha uses on some of their quads but more sparkle)

basically yes, with the above 2 colors---you spray and do a half cure the first coat then pull the part let it cool and spray the second (top coat), back in the oven for a full cure of the second coat --- there are KV adjustments and sometimes I change to a different nozzle for the second coat

bnau, that's exactly how I feel when ordering. I go on to get a red color or something and I spend hours researching.

I know one color that is cool on powderbuythepound is black lava. It's a red color but I think having a grey base would be best for it. It's a reddish coat.

Just get yourself a cheap oven, a harbor freight coater and some powder and practice. You'll find yourself addicted! Just makes me want to move and setup a nice powder area to practice more.
