Anybody going?

DuneFest 2014

Registration opened up last week so if you want to attend, it's a good idea to get your sand camping or day use pass ahead of time.

I've been wanting to make it there for this for a while. I'll talk to a couple of people this weekend and see if anyone wants to make the drive up there.

There's a lot going on.  Starts getting beat up Friday-Sunday since there's so many people but you can usually find some nicer sand at the Southern end.  Organization of the event can be interesting but it's worth attending at some point.  You can get sand camping passes and day use passes.  If you think you want the latter, I'd recommend getting one early since they sell out quick.

Hold on, there is no sand camping with alcohol approved??? I'm out.

Nahh, just messing. But I do enjoy a drink at the end of a day of riding. How are they with enforcement of the Db limit. I run an ESR centermount setup with a Sphinx.

No drinking on the sand.  If you must, just have it in some non-descript container and you should be fine.. I've only observed this in the past :D

I was ticketed at DuneFest once in the half dozen times I've been.  We were staging out of the 3rd parking lot.. and honestly it could have happened at any other time of year.  But on the sand you shouldn't have any issues.  Just be smart if you see Ranger Rick.  "Sand Camping C" is typically where all the drag racers camp so no worries about noise violations in that area.

They do give complimentary sound checks which should prevent a ticket at that time.  But, if you fail, they'll likely ask you to leave.  So next time I'm trapped, I'll likely wave at Ranger Rick and ask for a complimentary sound check to forego the ticket.  All that being said, I've been stopped 4 times in all my years riding the dunes and was only ticketed that once.  YMMV.

That'd be awesome!  How far is the drive to Winchester for you?

Oh I'm 3 hours away. Dad lives outside of Reedsport so I stay with him when I ride Winchester.

That's must be nice!  I usually stay at the Winchester Bay Inn.  The 3rd Parking Lot Day Use Area is still pretty open as of early this week and apparently this year you'll have assigned spots (so no first come first serve / lining up at the gate at 5:15AM to get a good spot).  :D
