LRD Adjustable vs ESR TRX250RB vs New LED
« on: March 19, 2014, 11:58:54 AM »
Ok, so here it is. I have an older LRD adjustable pipe on my bike now. This is a stock cylinder (small bore), some porting, 230 psi compression, 38mm carb, cr ignition, rad valve, stock stroke. I usually just ride the trails and occasionally the dunes at Silver Lake. I have been thinking about trying another pipe and was wondering what would be the differences/advantages of the 3 pipes. On one hand I see some people like the ESR pipe for all around and on the other I really like being able to play around with the length of my pipe:playful:.   I was also wondering how much has changed from the old LRD pipe design to Arlan's new LED pipes?  Hopefully Arlan ledperformance can shed a little light on the differences of my old pipe vs his newer pipe. Maybe someone could chime in on the seat of the pants feel on these pipes especially if you have tried a couple of these pipes. Or if someone has some actual dyno time with any of these pipes that would be helpful as well.

Thanks,
Mike

So, I found some of the info I was looking for in the LED section. Probably should of used the search function first. I would still like to hear somebody's experiences with the ESR exhaust. I also would like to know if my older pipe that I have now is the Team "B" pipe? Is there some type of markings I should be looking for? Basically was there more than one version of this pipe offered back in the day like a Team pipe and a general pipe or any other versions? I am beginning to think I need to check the port timings when I get a chance after it warms up a little and see what the cylinder needs.

On the pipe "label" it will have some letters or numbers and then 250B on it if it is a 250B pipe. You are on the right track with measuring the port timings because if I'm correct each pipe works well with certain port heights or something like that. I'm sure the pro's will chime in and correct me. In one of Arlen's posts on this site about the 250B pipe he talks about which port heights work the best with his pipe.

I can say the LED pipe in non chrome is amazingly beautiful. I have an old chromed LRD pipe that recently cracked and went to LED to talk to Arlen about a new one. They are sexy. He also said he is putting orders in for a run of them so it might take a while.

So mine does not have a label with 250B on it anywhere. So am I correct in assuming that the pipe I have is a general purpose pipe. If so, my next question would be what was the rpm range that my pipe was designed for? Or what was the intended application for this pipe?
