Clutch Cover / Kick Starter Gear OEM Change

Which year(s) did they change the cover and gear to eliminate the spacer?  88-89?  Just curious more than anything.  Was playing around with - I think are - 86 and 88 engines and was noticing the differences.

You got it. In 88 the spacer was taken out. The collar protruding out on the kicker gear is about 1/2" longer. The cover was cast with about 3/4" more material in that location. Eddy supplies a spacer to use with his covers to work with the 88-89. This a 88 motor in the pic
