looking at snapon site theres a few different styles. collet type that screws onto the threads, looks pretty neat but they dont show single sizes only a full metric set so ill pass on that since i just need one size. anyone tried this kind ?  need to get the case cylinder studs out and put in longer ones  http://www.ebay.com/itm/SNAP-ON-TOOLS-7-16-to-1-2-STUD-REMOVER-A50-/231270235431?hash=item35d8c7bd27&item=231270235431&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

The first style works good.  I've never used the second.  9 times out of 10 I just use the double nut trick.

I have one of the first type have used It many times, works very well, never tried the second one.

ill probly get that first one. should take them out pretty fast. been in there 20yrs doubt a double nut will do anygood. rather use the right tool and be done with it

I've never seen a stud remover before how does it work? It looks it clamps on to the threads then lets you unscrew it but isnt it going to destroy the threads with it? Or am i not looking at it correctly

Mine were in for 20 years and I tried everything and couldn't get them to budge. Took the lower end to a machine shop he had no luck until he let us in on an actient Chinese secret that worked wonders!!! Just heated up the studs and case around and melted a bit of birthday candle on each stud let it run down between the threads and then did the double nut and they came out with ease! I was amazed!!! I used the same method on my next motor and it worked again

some removers might destroy the threads like the clamp style but some thread on and wont ruin em. if your using different studs it dont really matter how you get the old ones out

anyone know where i can get M10x60 case studs ? im assuming theyre 1.5 pitch but havent checked yet. might be 1.25.   i cant see any on arp site.  whats all the companies that sell these type of studs ?

I have lots of the Honda 55mm length every one uses for the spacer plate. They are less than $2 each

The first one you listed is just like my Craftsman.  It works very good.  The double nut trick does not always work....trust me I found out just recently on my 87.

i just checked and theres 65mm in now. need atleast 70mm (2.750") for the spacer. its for ktm that im putting that other cylinder on. ill call arp and see what they got.  everything on summit site is way to long

I have had one of Snap Ons collet type stud removers for about 25 years and it works great.  I have fixed hundred of broken studs and messed up threads on studs that used the universal type of eccentric stud removers.  The eccentric type stud removers usually put marks (that resemble Vice Grip marks) on the smooth portion of the stud.  The marks sometimes cause stud fractures.  The gripping surface of the eccentric type stud removers is fairly wide and often messes up the threads near the smooth portion of the stud.
