85 atc250r rear shock and front fork rebuild
« on: September 08, 2014, 11:20:08 PM »
I have an 85 atc250r that needs the suspension rebuilt.  The front forks are leaking out of the dust seal which is an easy fix but my question about the front is that it sags really bad.  Does anyone know why this is?  The forks move smoothly also.  Should I replace the bushings too, they are the original bushings but i'm not sure if I should bother messing with them.  Then the rear shock definitely needs a rebuild.  It sags real bad and the dampening is pretty bad, but it still does dampen some.  The rear shock doesn't leak but I know the nitrogen has to be gone.  Should I replace any of the seals or should I just put new oil, nitrogen and a new bump stop on?  I will be taking the whole shock apart to replace the bump stop.  Does anyone know where to get rebuild kits for the rear also, because I can't find any rebuild kits?

Thanks in advance.

A couple things to do on the front. I have a set that I use for flat track and it calls for 400 cc of fluid and I run 500 cc. It doesn't sag and seems to have good dampening. I have another set I use for jumping and trail riding that has 1" pvc spacers to put more preload. You can use shorter spacers to ajust preload where you want it.
As far as the rear shock. I have never rebuilt one. Never really looked for a rebuild kit.
