Houser YZ426 Hybrid Build Thread
« on: July 14, 2013, 01:14:13 PM »
So here is the beginning to the build thread for my Houser YZ426 Hybrid.  I bought it thinking it was a 250R hybrid chassis by houser, but its actually a 400ex.  At first I was a little discouraged because I wanted it to be a true 250R / yz 426 hybrid, but lets face it, chassis wise the 250R and 400ex share the same geometries so to me now it will be close enough.  I was able to trace this frame back through some previous forms when it was raced and if you want to see that, check my post about it in the hybrid section.

Anyway here are some pics of all I have for it at the moment... not much but definitely a starting point.

My plans are as follows:
The chassis needs to be stripped and just gone over to check to make sure its in good serviceable shape.  It appears to be, but never hurts to double check.  I'm going to re-do the rear foot peg / pro peg mounts because one is not square to the chassis, may have been repaired once, but my ocd will kick in and I'll get it all perfected.  Also going to just check everything else.

For the rest here is what I want to run:
Front arms will be gibson +3, with the bike riding on axis shocks all around.
I want to keep with the 400ex parts on this one because they are plentiful and its an ex chassis, so I'm going to find a RPM Ex axle.
For the radiator it use to have a walsh 250r, so thats what I'm going to shop for again.
Motorwise its going to be a yz426 still, but I'm going to get it ported and worked some (why leave it stock when you already have everything apart and are going all out with the rest).
Also going to run 250R plastics on it so she will look and feel like a R.

Color scheme wise I'm leaning towards doing the frame, sub, swinger, and lower a arms in hugger orange.  Its a hybrid so its already a funky bike, why not make it pop?  For the plastics they are going to be white, yeah call it a creamsicle if you want, but it will look good.  I'll probably do the hubs in white as well with the inside being orange just to incorporate both colors.  Not sure on black or polished rims yet, but that's a while away.  I'm kind of thinking black at the moment.

Anyway time to put it in the back of my basement until she gets to her place in line.  I'm excited to see where this is going to go just by what I have pictured in my head.

To be continued...

i have been anticipating this.  it will be a good machine.  true to the 400ex, 250r geometry.  it is very close.  mounts are slightly different and there are variations in the frame rails for a radiator mount, otherwise basically the same.

When I was talking to Mark at Houser, he was telling me the frame is built to 250R geometry.  Not sure if the 400ex is any different, but atleast geo wise its 250R.  They only used the 400ex components because they were more readily available and cheaper when these were made in the early 00's.

I'm slowly shopping for parts for it, but haven't really made any progress yet.  I have enough other stuff to get done with that PRP chassis, and my Arens I'm trying to get back together.  Although I did find the brother to this chassis... another identical Houser 426 hybrid that I've been eying up and tempted to work on getting.  But then again how many bikes to I need?
