Whats up fellas, this is a post I had on the ".net" site and one person advised me to ask on here.

Need to get an exhaust for the '86.

My ride is going to be set up for MX with a stock motor and 38mm AS carb and sometime next year I would like to put a 310 kit on it after I am done building my 450.
So I need something that'll be good for the stock motor as well as once its really ready to tear it up.

Everyone has said Sparks, I know its a good pipe all around as my brother used to run one. A few people mentioned the TRX exhausts by ESR and I was actually considering the Stage 1 Kit (TRX7 exhaust and 38 a.s)

Thoughts? Feedback?

The TRX5 ESR pipe is the best all around pipe that money can buy and they are readily available. I love my Sparks MX mostly because it's a piece of 250r history, but yes it performs good as well.

TRX5 is your best bet

The TRX7 is a very good choice for bottom end riding. The sparks pipe is more like the TRX5, a good all around pipe with plenty of top end. I use the TRX5 and TRX9 for my 400cc puma cylinders as I am dune riding needing top end most of the time. The ESR pipes are readily available at a price you cannot beat. The members here have been using these pipes for the last 10 years. Good product at a competitive price. You do have to realize the plating is not as good as show quality chrome. If you are wanting the best show pipe then you can order it unfinished and get it chromed by your favorite chrome guy.

Well for now its just gonna be a play bike to throw my leg over til my 450 is done then im gonna throw the 310 on it, because I love riding the two smoke but at the same time I need to be able to keep up with my buddies on 450's so I would assume the 7 would be best to get a little more bottom end. Oh and I also got those Puma gussets on, and I gotta say they look damn sexy on my frame! haha

I would go with the 7 for slower tight mx and woods but the 5 for faster mx and everything else. The kits are a good setup but be careful with an open filter setup and water/mud. If you are going to be splashing you may want to keep your airbox. If no splashing that filter setup will work great. You can call them to talk more about your needs.
The 5 is just the best all around do it all very well pipe. The 7 will work a little better for the slower tight stuff but with a trade off on top.

Looks like its just the header? If so what would be the ideal silencer

One option would be the esr. It uses orings to seal and it might come in the kit. Just give them a call to check. I believe it is best to call after 10 pacific or leave a message.

What about the ESR MX pipe? Is this similar to the TRX7 or the TRX5?

I spoke to Arlan at LED and when we were talking about setups and with the adjustable pipe you can taylor it to the track. I run a series where one track is super tight and the other is fairly open. That is when he mentioned the adjustable pipe. Just food for thought.

I believe the mx is a brother to the 9 the same way a 7 is a brother to the 5. You can see this in the rear 1/3 of the pipe photos. The 9 and mx will have more of a hit then the 5 or 7 with the mx being for more lower end then the 9 but I would call and chat with them on this. Options are covered. lol

I second or third or whatever it is up to now. TRX5CM here. I ran it on a stock cylinder, ported stock, and now my Sphinx cylinder setup. Works great.

Just got off the phone with ESR and he said the TRX7 would probably be best for what I am going for. So I will be ordering the Stage 1 kit with the TRX7 and 38mm A.S
