Hello everyone!

Decided to get back to owning an R again.. (you can never stay away)
This will be my 3rd one since the '80's. Going to strip it down to the frame, gusset it and completely start over. Ultimately going to build a XC and occasional duner. It runs but is in pretty rough shape.
Any input/referrals on frame repair and gusseting would be appreciated.

Look forward to getting to know you guys... Thanks!

Welcome, Looks to me like you have a nice clean start. The Pumashine Gusset kit is the way to go, not only that he has a lot of custom goodies for the R. I'm pretty sure there's some TX guys in here to that could help source a welder for you if your not installing yourself. If not, check for local Car builders that do chassis work.

And yes, you can not stay away from the R! I recently sold mine and going through the 12 steps of recovery now (1st step - find a frame and start building another).

where are  you riding at? I  recently moved to Texas,  not aware of any dunes.  it will be a couple of months before I move my bikes down,  but I'll be looking for people to ride with soon.

Looks like a solid start. If you're going to sell those plastics, please let me know! I may be interested.
I ride PINNED! Therefore, no bdt in this household.

It has OEM axle on it now. Not sure what I'm gonna replace it with. It's been since the early 2000's since I've had an R. Trying to get caught up on what's still being manufactured (not much)

Just got back from Hidden Falls Adventure Park. It's in Marble Falls TX. (Near Austin)

There are sand dunes located in Kermit TX (near Midland/Odessa) and the Little Sahara dunes in Oklahoma.
Where in TX are you?

I am back and forth between Dallas and Austin.  I imagine by June I'll be down in Austin permanently. Hopefully I'll be able to bring my bikes down by the end of the year. Not sure how they would do at marble falls. They are setup for MX/dunes. Pretty wide.  Are there any MX tracks that allow quads? Went out to Del Valle to watch. I don't think they let quads out there.

When I was driving down, I stopped at a little dune place outside of Roswell nm. It was pretty small. It think you could see the whole thing in about 20 minutes. Really fine sand. Once I'm setup, I would be down for a OK trip.  How big is kermit?  I watched a few videos, seemed a little bit small. I think I was spoiled up in the northwest.

Best regards
-Jason

Nice quad to start with!  What tires are those?  I see a lot of guys with those OEM style tires now.  Are they still making them?

The rears are off a Suzuki LTR450R Quadracer. The fronts are just basic Dunlops run on a lot of the new sport quads.

Not sure what I am going to do with them yet. Looks like no other company than Maier are making anything for the R's anymore. Are you aware if any?
