Hello all! I have had a 1986 Honda TRX250R for a long time now and I am thinking about a total rebuild. I cracked the cylinder about 3yrs ago during some hard riding and haven't ridden it since. I am starting to get the fever again to get out and ride this summer. I sent ESR an email about a rebuild about a week ago but haven't heard back yet.....maybe I will call tomorrow. If I can't get ahold of them I will try BDT to see what they can do. I think I am gonna get some new a-arms, new swinger, new tires and wheels, new shocks, and maybe a nice 350cc big bore. I don't want to get beat by a four popper!

Welcome, R looks good as does the RC51 behind it!

If I'm correct LED does rebuilds and I would keep trying ESR.

You might want to ask others here about BDT before calling them as they may have some experience with them....

Absolutely stay away from the bdt clan. Plenty of more capable builders out there

Thanks for the warm welcomes everybody. I will be posting this build in the build section directly. I remember when I would take this thing to the track...all the young guys on the latest and greatest 450's would ask me "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING"...LOL! Now about the builders....I don't know of any builders around here that do good 2stroke work. I would rather support companies that support the "R". I am gonna be dumping way more money in this thing than I should but...It deserves to be seen and ridden...not broken down and stored in the garage. And one more thing....Is BDT really that bad?

welcome!

we have amazing forum sponsors that have been building real race winning bikes for decades. Call arlan at led or neil at c-leigh racing and explain your riding style and expectations, they will set you up right.

Awesome Bikes indeed, I used to "hate" them because of the sound.. Then I rode my buddies and think the sound is beautiful!
They hold their value as well and with those miles you have yourself a nice investment!

I would rather support companies that support the "R". This is typically what all the bdt lovers say.                                                                                                       say.               And one more thing....Is BDT really that bad?
In my opinion yes they are that bad. Any business man that needs to make up fake user names to drum up business and threaten other members  forum members is a lowlife in my book. Carlos was a lie from first time he showed up on atvriders ,but I get the feeling you know all this.

Yes. All of the lies and damage done to the R community should never be forgotten. Making up fake member names talking about fake problems and fake bad business dealings with other builders in the R community to build their business and damage others business is so low and dirty that you would have to be insane to close your eyes to it. If a person supports such low life scumbag dirty business antics it says a lot about them as well.

Welcome Don Ho!  I am a newb myself, and am fixing up an R that I got this winter.  I thought we might be close, but we are about 3 hours apart.  I don't have a lot of input about the BDT drama.  Like I said, I am a newb, and joined the other forum first, so I have purchased some things from BDT, and can say I was pleased for the most part.  The airstriker I bought may have been a little over priced, but the custom ground 69mm OEM head gasket he sold me was a life saver for my engine (two other types of gaskets I tried leaked coolant).  I am not aware of another place I can buy such a gasket.  I hope my previous business with them, doesn't "say a lot about me", as I was unaware of, and have no knowledge of, any shady practices.  Not a fanboy or defending anyone, I just don't have an opinion, due to my limited experience in the 250R field lately. I try to stay neutral in situations like these, until someone personally does me wrong.  At any rate, welcome, and I feel sorry for your wallet!
