ATC or TRX..how about both!

Hi folks!

First I must thank you all for such a friendly community with a wealth of info, I will definitely need some help in the months to come! I grew up riding 3 wheelers (family was in an old newspaper article fighting the soon to be ban in 86), then quads. We would make the 6+ hour drive to the dunes in Florence to ride with our extended family and it was some of the fondest memories I have from my early years. At some point sadly, life got too busy (or some other common excuse) and everything was sold off (age 18 or so). I've always missed those times and planned to one day return. Well, finally some 15-20 years later I was overcome with an overwhelming wave of impulse, and thus decided to get proactive!

Ive be always loved the ATC250r. I used to watch them as a kid at the flat track races, riders hanging off the side, WOT, and the sweet smell of caster oil was completely mesmerizing. "You don't want one of those, they always foul the plugs, blah blah" my dad and uncle (4stroke guys) would always say (based on lord knows what urban myths. We'll I've decided that life won't be complete without experiencing one first hand. I found an 85 on craigslist in "excellent condition". Well after driving all the way it would be more like OK at best but I didn't care. $1800 later I was cruising home with my new prize and one step closer to returning to the dunes! At home I started going thru what it needed (new chain, sprockets, bearings). Kickstarter had the infamous slip that they do on 85's. Next thing I know I've got it stripped to the frame and so I guess I'm doing a ground up build (lol)

I have a pretty great significant other that deals with my shenanigans, plus I need something for her to ride (this strategic planning will ensure these future trips happen)! So I thought hoes cool would it be to have a trx to match?! I found a great deal on an 88 with lots of extras. Someone took good care of it at one point; the kid I bought it off not so much. Apparently the rear brake caliper "fell off" at the dunes the one and only time he road it. Oh and the chain too...? But it has a strong, fresh looking 310 motor, durable axle, laegar swingarm, long arm kit, etc. This one just needs a good detailing, (and a rear caliper!) and should be good to go for now. Sorry for the bad pics, I'll post some better ones to come. Can't wait to go ride!

Welcome back to the good life. Looks like a pretty solid foundation to build on with both of them.
