Well fellas, it was a bit of a rough race weekend, but I really enjoyed it. It ended up raining some so the track was a bit muddy for practice, but it got better as the night progress. Our class race was 11 out of 12, so the track got dried some by the time we race.
Moto1: Out of the gate I was neck and neck with 2 other guys for the holeshot out of 7 racers. Around the first partial turn, they had the inside line and took 1st and 2nd place positions, but I was right behind them. Coming around the 1st 180° burm turn they guy in front of me spins out and I had nowhere to go, but run into him. We had a huge pile up of quads behind us, but everyone else was able to get around. I was stuck and had to get off and pic his 4 poke hoopty up and move it out of my way. I got restarted, but the rest of the class was over half a lap ahead and I was never able to catch them. There was also a guy that pulled off the track because his quad messed up. He rolls over to the side of the track and stays there for a lap or so. He then decides to get back on the track and finish the race and pulls out almost right in front of me. He then proceeds to block me for a full lap before finally realizing that he is holding me up. I was so pissed! If you are not in the race anymore, get the frick out of the way! So moto 1 was a bust. So I ended up in 6th place
Moto 2: Again out of the gate, I take 3rd place position. I got off to a good start, but had a disadvantage being that I was not jumping 2 doubles that almost everyone else was. And unfortunately, I got passed over both of them! LOL. I just didn't get enough time to practice those doubles and don't like to try new things on the fly in a race. I fought the guy on the yellow quad until the bitter end, but eventually ran out of steam on the last 1-1.5 laps and he got around me. I ended up in 6th place this race also.
Things to take away: I was much happier with my stamina this race. I really didn't get terribly exhausted until roughly the last lap, maybe 2, of the last moto. That is much better than I have been all season. My jumping and landing has been getting better as well as I am getting more comfortable on these supercross style jumps. Several of the guys commented on how fast my quad was through the back straight away and that they didn't think they would have been able to pass me if I had been hitting all the doubles.
So all in all, still much work and training to be done, but I am starting to see progress. I finally hit my first triple in a race at this race, pretty happy with that also. Hope you guys enjoy these updates. Next race will be August 17th.
Got a few more surprises for these 4 pokes. I just got in a race dome to bump my compression up to about 205-210psi from 180psi. Gonna bump up the power a little bit. Also getting in a long travel front suspension setup to help cushion my lard butt.
Here is some video of the races that my wife took. Please be gentle, she is not great a filming, lol! The 2nd moto video is short because the memory card ran out. Learned 2 things from this race: 1. need a larger memory card for camera 2. need a tripod
Enjoy! (By the way, I am the black quad that comes out in 3rd place out of the gate in both videos)
