Well fellas, it was a bit of a rough race weekend, but I really enjoyed it. It ended up raining some so the track was a bit muddy for practice, but it got better as the night progress. Our class race was 11 out of 12, so the track got dried some by the time we race.

Moto1: Out of the gate I was neck and neck with 2 other guys for the holeshot out of 7 racers. Around the first partial turn, they had the inside line and took 1st and 2nd place positions, but I was right behind them. Coming around the 1st 180° burm turn they guy in front of me spins out and I had nowhere to go, but run into him. We had a huge pile up of quads behind us, but everyone else was able to get around. I was stuck and had to get off and pic his 4 poke hoopty up and move it out of my way. I got restarted, but the rest of the class was over half a lap ahead and I was never able to catch them. There was also a guy that pulled off the track because his quad messed up. He rolls over to the side of the track and stays there for a lap or so. He then decides to get back on the track and finish the race and pulls out almost right in front of me. He then proceeds to block me for a full lap before finally realizing that he is holding me up. I was so pissed! If you are not in the race anymore, get the frick out of the way! So moto 1 was a bust. So I ended up in 6th place

Moto 2: Again out of the gate, I take 3rd place position. I got off to a good start, but had a disadvantage being that I was not jumping 2 doubles that almost everyone else was. And unfortunately, I got passed over both of them! LOL. I just didn't get enough time to practice those doubles and don't like to try new things on the fly in a race. I fought the guy on the yellow quad until the bitter end, but eventually ran out of steam on the last 1-1.5 laps and he got around me.  I ended up in 6th place this race also.

Things to take away: I was much happier with my stamina this race. I really didn't get terribly exhausted until roughly the last lap, maybe 2, of the last moto. That is much better than I have been all season. My jumping and landing has been getting better as well as I am getting more comfortable on these supercross style jumps. Several of the guys commented on how fast my quad was through the back straight away and that they didn't think they would have been able to pass me if I had been hitting all the doubles.

So all in all, still much work and training to be done, but I am starting to see progress. I finally hit my first triple in a race at this race, pretty happy with that also. Hope you guys enjoy these updates. Next race will be August 17th.

Got a few more surprises for these 4 pokes. I just got in a race dome to bump my compression up to about 205-210psi from 180psi. Gonna bump up the power a little bit. Also getting in a long travel front suspension setup to help cushion my lard butt.

Here is some video of the races that my wife took. Please be gentle, she is not great a filming, lol! The 2nd moto video is short because the memory card ran out. Learned 2 things from this race: 1. need a larger memory card for camera    2. need a tripod

Enjoy! (By the way, I am the black quad that comes out in 3rd place out of the gate in both videos)

Awesome job!!! In the first video I thought a huey was landing! LOL All in all the quad looked great for power and suspension. Once you build up your stamina and get those doubles down you're gonna crush them. When you are running to gain time with no one on your butt pick the fastest line and keep that momentum up. Keep your head up and looking ahead getting ready for the next turn, jump, whatever. Breathe, Lean and relax. Snack on some grapes or cherries during the race day. those natural suguras will help you. No energy drink crap. Once again great job and always great to break the races down and review where to make changes for the next time. Keep up the great work and looking forward to next race highlights.

Thanks Joe for the kind words. Yes, my wife definitely can't hold a camera steady! lol. Thus the need for the tripod.

I haven't heard about any of your races lately. Are you still out of commission? Seems like you said you were taking a break or something? What's the word?

I think she did a great job filming. You need a brighter helmet so its easier for her to find you though...that's why I switched to my "clown outfit" as my daughter calls it! LOL

funds...my divorce is killing me and now we have time cut from work so I'm living off of Mac n Cheese....seriously!! I've been doing some side work to get some coin to race but the R seems tobreak at the worst possible time. Crank bearings are shot and counterbalancer bearing holder broke so I think I'm done for this year...might get one race in. Mentally I'm so pumped to get out on the track. When i watch you and Burns videos I so with I was there racing or to even be your pit crew. So thats my sob story, down but not out!! If I get to race you can be sure I'll be posting.

Now go out there and look that machine over good and get her ready for battle!! When are you racing again? Two weeks?

Joe,

I'm sorry to hear that. I wouldn't wish a divorce on anyone, nobody wins. I know how it is when things aren't going well at work also. That's why it took my so long to get back to racing again. Do to the economy and downsizing, I get laid off from 4 good jobs in 5 years. It was a nightmare. Well, I will certainly be thinking of you when I am out there. Hang in there! It will get better.
It's funny that you mention the helmet because I actually ended up breaking the plastic slider on the visor for my helmet and this helmet is 11 years old, so I'm gonna have to get a new one here soon. LOL I'll make sure it is brighter to see.
My next race is August 17th, so about 3 weeks. I will make sure to have a tripod by then so hopefully you guys will get to see the races better. I'm not a great racer by any means, but those 4 strokes have a hand full out of the gate! LOL. I should be able to get back to some cardio this week, and I started play softball, which helps too. I don't do anything at half pace. If I am running bases, it's like an overloaded train with the boiler exploded! LOL

Here is a pic where you can see the fins on my radiator. I purchased it from a member back in the day but is that what you were talking about with Tony? maybe he can make up a set of these as well

Yeah, that is the louver I was talking about. It was really a two part issue.
1.I think the shroud design needs to end and butt right next to the front of the radiator edge.
2. And personally, I think a louver design like that would also help funnel/force air to go through the radiator fins instead of trying to push around it.

OMF still makes a shroud and louver setup, and is available if you contact them.

Those are the old style that you had to re use the original plastic radiator guard and those louvers were riveted to it.  The newer style replaces the plastic radiator guard with just a piece of flat aluminum that has louvers made into it, which this style is available.

I know this post is older but I thought I would let rablack21 know that I have the old style OMF louvers already bolted on the stock plastic radiator guard. If youre interested then shoot me a p.m. Always eager to help a fellow racer out if I can and racing isn't cheap so... Pay for shipping and theyre yours.

Yep, it was Calhoun, Ga. I live in Soddy Daisy, but alot of the SE Quad series races take place in Ga, including Bremen Race Park.
