Anyone know why La Dunes is now closed? This is about the only place close to where I live that is decent for dune riding. Ive been slowly building an dune/trail quad for a while now and I will have to travel to little sahara, hopefully there is something closer to s.e. texas area.

Joe was losing too much money with the lease and insurance and not having a consistant amout of people every weekend. Hopefully someone will pick up the lease again but I havent heard of anything yet.

The guy who is at the forefront of trying to make it happen is Ledford Gilispie. He lent joe a hand with the bulldozer at the dunes on race day to smooth things out..Situation on the dunes is basically, the old man who owned the property was supposed to go down on the lease for joe, the old man passed away and his son now owns it. The son is being " difficult" for lack of other words about the lease price..So,Joe just couldnt keep losing money on the property as attendance wasnt consistent..
In comes Ledford..He is big into racing so he wants to make the dunes accessable to the guys who are enthusiasts.. So the idea came up to do it as basically a hunting lease type system but for duners.INITIALLY he would like a small group of guys and gradually grow it bigger. We want guys who are family and bike oriented and who we know will respect the rules and the property.Just like you wouldnt want guys in a hunting lease who would get drunk and mud ride thru the food plots, etc.. same principal..
To those people who attain membership the dunes will be accessable for our use 24/7/365 day and night..Basically it will be our own private playground and not open to the public, except for the few events we will throw to raise money for the lease upkeep etc..
The price for membership is a little pricey, BUT i think that will keep those undesirable riders out, and keep a tight knit group of family and friends even closer..Not too many people can say they have the dunes all to themselves. Yes it will have some minor drawbacks, but in the end those of us who love the dunes will still have our playgroud to enjoy with friends and family..

Im fortunate enough for them to consider me in the first circle of guys for membership and i have my circle of guys that i can vouch for and will be pushing for membership also..
That being said, myself and Wayne will keep you guys posted on updates as to the lease situation and memberships IF they can work out a reasonable price for the lease and insurance for the property..We are all hoping they can make a miracle happen and we get to throw sand by the lake again soon.... fingers crossed

Awesome Ben, Keep me in the loop of all this and consider me in also!  From what the price was for the lease and insurance per month (if I heard right) was pretty expensive. Big rides a few times a year would have to  help to even put a dent in the cost.

Is there a facbook page with the info on it?   I believe Gillespie is from Pineville right?

Keep me in the loop too.   Although we only go a couple times a year and hopefully can ride on someone's coat tails as a guest, maybe.
Bunch of race quads that run on premix

I'm definitely hoping this works out and I can someday buy a membership. I ride little Sahara Oklahoma a lot but it is nice having this place 2.5 hours away from home.
