DIY Epoxy Coat

I will be closing on my newly built house soon. I am wanting to epoxy coat my basement and garage. The square footage is 1440. A professional quote was over $6,000; I am not spending that. I would like to do it myself.
Does anyone have experience with this and could offer some advice for me to do it myself?
Thank you,
John

I actually wanted to leave the living area in my house polished. It was cooler, easier to clean, and cheaper then any flooring options as it was actually the slab. The old lady put a Vito on the industrial look:(

jon, that is the square footage for both the garage and basement area.
I seen acid etching is necessary. also, it is new concrete so its is very clean, except for the construction crew applying their dirt.

I'm actually looking to buy a second home at some point.
Of course I am not happy at all with the DIY crap from Home Depot. I will be going with something like this in the future.

Also take a look over at GarageJournal. They have all the answers for you. Heck just read up on it first. Acid etching is not needed on a new pour. But you have to check for moisture first. Usually with a section of plastic taped down.

As others have stated. Preparation is going to be the main factor with any product the you end up choosing. I did my floor about 4 years ago when we bought the house, and it looks great. A friend of mine did a couple of his house before and all turned out great and held up very good as well.
Wash the floor clean. And let it dry. To make sure you can run your fingers across and not pick up any dust.
I used the Rustoleum Epoxy Shield they sell at home depot.
