Rode the R after 2 months..... dissapointed:(
« on: October 31, 2015, 09:46:01 PM »
I know i will be burned at the stake for this but here me out haha. Ive been riding my R for the past 2 years and never had a complaint with it. Well my suspension was long overdue for a service so I put the bike out of action while the shocks were being redone. In the 2 month period that it took for the shocks i aquired a 450r project and got it going. So i have been cruising that around for a few weeks. Finally got my shocks back and rode the 250r today and just was kinda bummed out by it. The bike ran terrific and the fresh shocks worked good too, my problem is that im finding it really umcomfortable. The bike feels very rigid and stiff compared to my 450. The seat feels awfully stiff and its just really "twitchy" i guess you would call it. Now my R has laeger +2+1 and axis up front, ohlins in rear, pep stabilizer, antivibe stem, and a fresh set of gbc xc masters. The 450 has completly stock suspension, wore out razr 2 tires, and it does have a nice precision stabilzer. Im still very happy with my 250s power but does anyone else find the 250r uncomfortable after riding a 450r?
Put that hammer down and give it hell!!

Can't compare.  I love the way my 88 r feels.  It feels like your in it.  Riding the 450 it feels like your "on" it

I've never ridden a TRX450r but I have an 05 yfz450 and it seems alot more ruff than my R but I like both bikes just depends on my mood and whether or not I feel like using the kickstart or electric start

Well to start  hmmmm  really  not the same at all. 250r  wins all day ! Your seat  needs new foam.   This will make your ass happy

I second this thought. The 450r feels like your driving a tank. The 250r your part of the bike. Your suspension should be set for the type of riding you do.

Stiff and rigid should be able to be taken care of with softer springs or dampening adjustments.

Your Seat sounds dry rotted. New foam and / or cover should do the trick as mentioned. If it's still to stiff drill holes in the foam (actually did this on a dirt bike a while back and worked well, I went straight down for the most part with a few drills through the side).

My new thing with the R (and two strokes in general) is I think I'm getting to lazy and the hyper'ness of it catches me off guard to much. I'm afraid I may someday go with a 4 stroke :culpability:

Sounds like the setup is not quite correct for you. Twitchy means you need to set your toe and caster. Stiff means you need to set your sag and compression

Thats how my 450 feels to me. The 250 feels like im on top of it  and sitting high up. Maybe its all in my seat, Its equal to concrete lol.

Also, will handlebars make a difference? My 250 has a set of protaper 7/8 atv bend with odi lock-on grips, the 450 has tag t2 fat bars with smith grips? can different handlebars soak up vibrations better?

Handle bars absolutely affect the feel of a bike.

A quick easy way to help vibrations is get a can of spray foam fill the bar ends full and let both ends expand over night cut the foam flush an reinstall your grips.

I have ridden/raced many different quads over the past 30+ years and can definitely say my R rides and handles better than any other quad. Granted four pokes are easier to ride they just don't smell right. I think something is not setup properly on your R. Just my personal opinion. Hope you get it figured out.

I don't have as much experience as hunter tools but.  I have never rode something that felt as good as a R!

DAMPER. Does your 250 have a steering damper?
