Pro-trax inner tie rod help?
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:00:14 AM »
I assume that since the steering stem has a grease fitting on it where the inner tie rod bolts on that it is supposed to turn inside the steering stem?

When I tighten the nuts up on the opposite end they do not turn in the steering stem.  I dont know if I trust running the nut a little loose--it just doesnt seem to turn that hard to me and may come loose.  Loctite?  Anyways, just need to know how this is supposed to work.  Thanks.  Will be posting a build thread when I can come up with some front shocks for it......

The pivot's that go through the stem need to rotate as it goes through the suspension cycle, true anti bind. Should be locking nuts tight enough that theres no in and out movement of the pivot in stem. Kind of a nice balance of tight, yet free enought to rotate on the stem bushing. As far as locktite Im not going to use it on mine. That is a spot that seems to collect alot of dirt/mud and may make for a pita at removal time. Hope that helps and looking forward to a build thread!

I kind of thought that is how it should be.  I will just have to keep a watchful eye on those.  I really need that mobile app.  would be really helpful.  Thanks for the reply

No problem,I went out and double checked mine, which arent mounted, and the previous owner didnt use lock nuts, however I will..lol. My stem was packed full of dirt when I got it so the nuts were a pain to get out. Also mine had o-rings on one side of the pivot,Im assuming it was supposed to have one on each side, does yours?.. Maybe someone that knows more than me will chime in.

I will have to look.  I never took it apart.  would make sense for o rings to be there. Will do that later today and report back.  Dont get too excited on this build.  This is going to be my "daily driver" and I dont want anything too fancy.  I want to be able to run this thing hard and not worry about scratching it!!

I dont like polishing chrome!  It has too much chrome already for me.  Going to be limited to "useful" things and not "bling bling"

I will but it wont be anything like Troy's build.  And front shocks for this thing are expensive!

I hear that! I bought the Axis from Dan's crf,he cut me a great deal and you truely get what you pay for. With that front end you cant go cheap with the shocks. But you do get the benifet of having the best set up made IMO

I sure hope so.  I am getting older and need the best so I dont get beat up as bad!!  I dont even race, just rec ride.  Looking at HLS shocks.  Talked to Laz already and he is confident he can build me some awesome shocks!
