I don't think you need them. I took them off my R many years ago & still had the oem brake lines & they never did rub the balljoint so you should be safe without them.

I don't have them on any of the 3 R's in my stable.

You'll have to try and do without the brake pad wear indicators also, which was their second purpose lol  :o

I wish I could ride enough to wear out a set of oem front brake pads but it would take me 4 lifetimes with as much as I ride now.
