So I was leaking transmission oil out of the shift shaft seal like a sieve. Came to the point where if I took a break from riding to eat lunch, i'd have to add more. Not to mention it was getting everywhere.

Took it apart and removed the shaft...the case on the shifter side seems to be a little whooped out, and the shaft has a little bit of play in it.

Any suggestions on a remedy for this?

May have to replace the case, had to on mine for this very reason. My shift shaft had a slight bend in it and it eventually wore the hole oblong. Replaced left center case and shift shaft. Good to go after that!!

a good machine shop can fix your case.

I thought I typed this once before. lol The thing I did and it worked as long as I owned the quad was this. Basically took a like new 1/4? punch...nice and flat on the end. Took it and peened all around the shift shaft on the aluminum to tighten it up. Just don't get too carried away. Make sure you still can shift good up and down. Put your new seal in and you hopefully will be good to go. Kind of cobby but for a cheap fix worked for me. Hope this makes sense.

Tig weld it shut, mill it flat and bore a new hole. This is the best way to fix it, but it will need to be precise, otherwise the shaft is going to bind.

i had same problem a few years back and local machine shop bored the hole larger and pressed a brass sleeve in they charged me 2 hours labor and like $5 for materials
