What do you guys think of the CT racing cylinders? I've been in contact with Allen about a cylinder that is getting repaired for a friend but after looking at the website I was leaning towards their 330 kit that is $1500 and that includes a complete rebuild of the crank, new bearing and seals, check everything in the bottomend, machine the cases and reassemble the engine. Cylinder is ported for what ever its going to be used for with proper dome. It seems like a pretty good deal or is there a better option? ESR, LRD

they are good but know that your getting a cookie cutter set up my org 310 came from ct and i had to do extensive porting to get it where i wanted it. price sounds good though

I bought a blank cylinder from CT and had it drop shipped to Neil for a full port job. I had the crank work done locally.

Is the rebuild of the crank just labor or does it includes parts? Same thing for the bottom end, will everything be replaced or just checked out?

This is exactly what I got from Allen...

Yes for that price you send us your bottom end, we split it, inspect it, and re-build the crank main bearings and seals are included, with the exception of the water pump seal, we don't go through the water pump, as there is nothing to see, it's either good or leaking. Cutting cases and all is included we assemble the top end onto your bottom end. Cylinder is fully ported, and race ready. Compression is set to what you are willing to burn for fuel.

If you want to know about CT there is plenty of bad publicity out there to knaw on. CT's cylinders are made by ProX(if i remember correctly, basically a ProX with nikasil plating), CT's porting is lack luster and nothing special in my eyes equal to the esr clean up porting.

if you want a big bore with basic bolt it together horsepower/performance levels thats what you will get. if you want to maximize the performance/horsepower of the setup your paying for i recommend to continue searching for your porter/builder there are many to choose from.

thank you and that's why i'm asking. I may just have Neil port a cylinder for me and just be done with it. I would love to have a BB but I'm starting to feel that my best bang for the buck will be Neil

I believe it's a $1000 for the cylinder. I haven't checked ESR prices to compare.

Blank cylinder was 900 (330) when I got mine a few years back.

Also, it sounds like it's just crank bearings and seals, not all throughout the bottom end. If you were gonna send CT your whole motor, why not just send it to Neil? You'll get a better bang for your buck and not some cookie cutter porting. He spends 2-3 hours a day for a few days porting a cylinder. The guy simply loves 2 strokes and working on them. Just talk to him on the phone and you'll realize.

And if you're gonna spend that much, go all the way and get it done right. That's just my opinion Joe!

I agree Fear and will probably just go down that road and be done with it. I know I will be pleased with the results just The sales pitch sounded good from CT! LOL

if my choices were limited to Niel or CT there would be no choice.

last time i had a cylinder done i went with an ESR (blank no porting no boring)
500$ was the special at that time.
450$ port job on the cylinder
dont remember the dome cutting price.
put in +4mm crank and new bearings and seals and gasket kit and new clutch plates and was ready to go.

Hybrid assembled and ported/bored/machined this setup and its almost more fun then the PUMA as it just works great

imo I would go with the esr cyl and put the saved money toward whatever else you want to do.
Example, if you are going to have neil port what you get you can get an esr and hotrods 4mil for the ct prox cost....
