Author Topic: WTB, NEED Aftermarket adjustable axle. Needs to be able to do stock width. (Read 8678 times)

I need an aftermarket axle. I need it to do stock width as well as wider. My current XC axle is a +2 +4 and even on its narrowest setting is to wide. May be willing to trade my LSR +2 +4 for a standard width aftermarket if the right option comes along.

Lord, these kids today, I dont know what I'm going to do with them.
Now heres a part where age & being around ATV racing a bunch of years plays a roll.

You ever thought about turning the hubs around to narrow the rear end :popcorn:.
Simple deal, but it works & you aint got to replace the axle to do it.

I tried that already Neil. But thanks. The hubs have a relief cut into the internal splines on the back side, so basically they only go on one way. The outside of the hub, the splines go to the edge.

Ya i tried to do that, because it would have worked perfectly. But no dice unless i want to mill the splines out of the outside section of the hub about 1/4" or so.

Aren't the lsr's +1-+3. The ones I have are anyway. Maybe another set of wheels with less backset/offset.

Yep your right, because on a Lonestar theres about a 3/16" wide section of the axle at the inside has no splines.
I've done it several times on my daughters, when hers had the Lonestar axle with out a problem, tucking those wheels in on a dusty loose 4 poker TT track to tighten the rear end up. Worked pretty good.

find a lathe and chuck em up and cut it away, would take 5 minutes and you will be good to go!

Burns,
A G Force or Tusk 400EX axle, is 1" shorter than a + 4 Lonestar, so if you had one of those & then put the spacers on the outside of the hubs it probably would be narrow enough.
I got one of those in my daughters R & even with the 400EX hubs its narrower than a normal Lonestar 250r +4 set up.
Back when I bought that axle, was like 180 bucks to my door & that wasnt a dealer cost price, but retail.

Im currently running a +2, +4 LSR setup. I have it has narrow as it will go, which is +2. When i put my shamrocks on it with my bazooka tires, outside of tire to outside is 48. So needless to say, i need to be able to do stock width. Im not sure if any +4 axle go clear back to stock width. Maybe they do, and just the one i have does not.

Buy a stock Axle. I'll measure mine with the Shamroks and Hipers but I believe both are right around 45". I think my wheels are 3/5 or maybe 4/5 can't remember.

Updated:
My wheels are indeed 3/5 and fronts are 4/1. Front and rear on both quads measures 45". Fronts are +2 while back is stock axle.

That is defiantly an option. I would rather have a harder aftermarket axle. I also like the option of adjust ability and durability. Hence the search. I will go stock as a last resort. There is a few of us trying to do a group buy on another site for an RPM XC axle.

What would the price be? I'd be interested in becoming part of the group buy. BTW - it takes a couple minutes to swap an axle out and the OEMs are out there pretty cheap. Just saying.
