Author Topic: airbox lid VS outerwear lid (Read 3154 times)

i ride trails and race XC. i cant decide if i want to stick with a airbox lid and snorkel or go with an outerwear hydrophobic lid. i do hit water and having a lid and the ability to submerge my quad is awesome. it gives me an edge up on a lot of other racers cause i can just blast the water and not worry about it but the setup i currently have is hookey and im revamping my box for this season. how good are the hydrophobic covers? i can watch videos all day long with people puddling water on top of the cloth but how does that translate to the real world? if i blast water and the box goes under water (im keeping the snorkel on it) is it going to keep most of the water out of the box or not? should i just keep a lid and stay safe? this is an aluminum airbox and fabing/welding is no problem for me so really the sky is the limit in that aspect.

The outerwear lids are good, but they WILL NOT keep all the water out of the box. I run that setup on my mx quad because some track owners water the tracks excessively. It does a great job at helping keep the water out of my air box. But if I hit A LOT of water (like you do in XC), it WILL get into the box. I would stick with the airbox lid. The little extra power that you would gain is not worth what you would be sacrificing. Just my opinion.

that was kind of what i was thinking. i have a 363 pv so as far as loosing a little bit of power i have plenty more where that came from haha

I would just swap out your setup depending on track conditions for that day.

If I had the ability to run the snorkel and lid setup then I would have actually finished a full 3 laps in the last GNCC I did. Instead I swamped the motor

id rather not switch up for track conditions. thats too much work that i dont have time for. both my girls race with me and getting the time to prepare 3 quads is a daunting task in itself haha. ill set it up and leave it. hell i dont even re-jet more than once throughout the season lol. sucks you swamped the motor! especially in a GNCC!

I'm not saying remove the whole snorkel tract. Just swap lids depending on conditions
