I'm looking to refinish my cases in a flat black satin (like a stock 89). My question is simple. Are there any advantages to painting or any pitfalls using powder? If paint is the way to go, does anyone have a PPG code for the stock 88/89's? For Powder, is there a special spec needed to handle the heat? Also, can the bearings be left in? Finally, lets see some finished product!

take a look a pumashines cases. he uses paint and its always looks wet and looks awesome.

Ppg u can use wa 8555. Its gm black then just add a flatning agent to the clear

I use VHT high temp paint, not really necessary to be high temp but it work good.

Honestly, a rattle can, would fool many people! Looks great and holds up well. :Boobies2:

You have to remove the bearings. Paint would be better, if you don't want to replace them.

i powdered mine, my next set will be painted when i get around to buying them. Paint will be easier to touch up if something scratches and can be done quickly is how im thinking about it.

What do all you painters use to protect it from gas? With jetting so often on our R's, i've found the gas just eats the paint. Is there a special clear anyone is using?

So far The ceramic engine paints seem to hold up well. there designed for this application. I just did one of my personal project's with it also. I'll let you know how it hold's up.

Do you spray it out of a gun or do you have a rattle can made? My paint supplier offers the rattle can, kinda neat for painting the underside of a tailgate or wheel wells, etc.

U can use the dpray can that they make its a one time use only tho just a fyi bc it has a hardener in it
